Harlequins fans are all calling for the same thing after Danny Care’s retirement announcement

Harlequins' Danny Care
Tuesday’s confirmation by Danny Care that he will retire from playing at the end of this season has resulted in an outpouring of online love for the scrum-half.
The 38-year-old, who has made a record 394 appearances for Harlequins since joining the London club from Leeds in 2006, is hoping to shake off a knee injury and play his final home match this Sunday when Exeter visit The Stoop.
The ex-England No. 9 last featured in the April 19 Gallagher Premiership loss to Sale, but he wants one final run before hanging up his boots. “Hopefully, if I can get my knee right, this will be my last ever game of rugby this weekend,” Care told 5 Live Sport.
His impending exit ignited a flood of farewell messages from fans, with several calling on Harlequins to rename part of their ground after the scrum-half.
Fans’ tributes to Danny Care
Cathy Churchill: “We love you DC. You’ve been amazing and deserve to retire on your terms at home with us all singing ‘Danny Danny Care, Danny Danny Care!!” I’m not choked up, honest! Harlequins and Laurie Dalrymple, WE WANT THE Danny Care South Stand!”
Michael Watts: Come on Harlequins and Laurie Dalrymple, Sunday has to see the unveiling of the Danny Care South Stand! No time to lose!”
Jack Counsell: “The greatest Quin ever. Thank you, Danny. Name that Stand!”
Louis@louischilv7: “Danny Sare south stand pls.”
Aside from this suggestion that Harlequins should rename their South Stand, there were plenty of other compliments posted about Care:
Mark Sutton: “Well we thought after chanting ‘One more year’ at DC’s book signing in December last year we had persuaded him to do exactly that. For a brief while a few months ago it seemed to have worked, but unfortunately no longer. One of Quins’ greats – thanks for the amazing memories DC!”
Quins legend and of the game. A kind of loyalty for a club we don’t see so much nowadays. A pleasure to follow you all over the years Danny 🥰. All the best for the new chapter incoming 😉 A french rugby fan 😊

“A gentleman, a character, a legend”
Gavin Outteridge: “Absolute LEGEND. I love him; my kids love him. Brought so much joy to so many, and exemplified the Harlequins brand of rugby. Go well, Danny.”
Larry Hockett: “Gave us 2 Premierships, a Challenge Cup, and more brilliant moments than any of us have room to remember. Such a fine player and representative of this club and England. Congrats on a career to be proud of, look forward to seeing you with a microphone, or maybe in a coaches’ box.”
Georgie@MagentaGOC: “Thank you for your service both in club and country! Loved you from the start and all the way through! An exciting player and such a top bloke! Big heart and you will be missed. Stay close DC, don’t disappear.”
Tolly@TollytB: ”Small in stature, but huge in ability, drive, determination, and skill. A true legend of the game, whether with Quins, or England, in 7s and the 15s teams. Possibly the unluckiest player never to be selected for the Lions. Without a doubt my favourite 9 of the last 15 years.”
BTek1866: “A gentleman, a character, a legend. It has been an absolute pleasure to watch Danny’s brilliance over so many years. His style, flair and bravery epitomise what Quins is all about. Gutted by this news, but we know he will still be a huge part of the club. His name will live on.”
Harlequin1974: “The greatest Quin of all time bar none… thank you for everything DC.”
Jon Mannings: “Congrats on a magnificent career. You were always the one opposition player who I had the utmost respect for. An absolute pain in the arse to every club but your own, but you did it in your own inimitable style and that is what you’ll be remembered for. Enjoy retirement.”
