Wasps have announced that scrum-half Craig Hampson will extend his stay with the Premiership club.

After joining Wasps on a loan deal in January, Hampson has been rewarded with a permanent contract ahead of the 2016/17 season.

The 25-year-old joined up with the squad on loan from Bristol as injury cover for Joe Simpson and, has made two appearances for the club.

Hampson joined Bristol ahead of the 2014/15 season, having been named in the Championship Dream Team XV after an impressive 2013/14 campaign with Yorkshire Carnegie and went on to make 39 appearances for the West-Country side.

On the new deal, Wasps' Director of Rugby Dai Young said: “Craig has impressed since he arrived in January, both in the games he’s played and in training. He came to the club with a good reputation from his time with Bristol and Yorkshire Carnegie in the Championship.

"We have been very impressed with his ability and attitude and we’re really pleased that he will be part of our very talented group of scrum halves for next season.”

Craig Hampson added: “I’m obviously delighted Dai has given me the opportunity to extend my stay at Wasps. I’m really looking forward to continuing to improve and to push my case.

"We have a very talented group of scrum halves and I’ve really enjoyed working with the guys here. The whole squad have been very welcoming since I arrived in January and I’m looking forward to playing my part as we move forward as a group.”
