Glowing praise for Genge

Leicester Tigers head coach Aaron Mauger thinks Ellis Genge has the potential to become an outstanding loosehead prop in the coming years.

Genge, 21, who was included in England's touring squad that travelled to Australia for their series win, did not feature in Eddie Jones' side.

But now back with the Tigers, Mauger has hailed his young prop ahead of the new Premiership season, which starts on Friday, September 2.

"He has so much potential if we get the little parts right, we saw a glimpse of what he can do against Bath last year," he told BBC Radio Leicester, with the Tigers playing Gloucester at Kingsholm in a tricky opener as they look to improve on last year's fourth place finish.

"Genge's challenge this year will be getting his scrum sorted, if he's playing against teams with good scrums he's got to be on the money."

Genge will be eager to learn from one of the world's best loosehead props at Leicester, with Mauger pleased with their depth in this area.

"Marcos Ayerza is still up there for us but it is nice now to have options," added the former New Zealand international inside centre.

"We now have three quality looseheads and some of those guys could bounce over and play on the other side of the scrum as well."
