France player ratings: ‘Unplayable’ Antoine Dupont puts on a ‘sensational’ show while Les Bleus rue Ntamack’s ‘needless’ act in Six Nations thrashing

How we rated the France players in the emphatic Six Nations victory over Wales.
Following France’s 43-0 thrashing of Wales, here is how we rated the performances of Fabien Galthie’s charges in the Six Nations clash at the Stade de France.
France player ratings v Wales
15 Thomas Ramos: The kind of performance we have grown to expect from the classy French full-back, who started his excellent shift with a wonderful 50/22. He was solid off the tee as he became his country’s all-time second-highest points scorer. His distribution was outstanding as he set up Louis Bielle-Biarrey’s first score and continued in that fashion throughout as he covered the backfield well too. 8
14 Théo Attissogbe: Some nervy moments from the young winger but showed preciously why Galthie backed him in Damian Penaud’s absence. He took his try-scoring opportunities well and threatened against the usually excellent Josh Adams. 7
13 Pierre-Louis Barassi: No Gael Fickou, no problem. Well for this week at least as Barrassi really impressed as he comfortably got the better of Nick Tompkins. He was superb on defence and ran strongly and effectively with ball in hand in what was a strong return to international rugby. 7
12 Yoram Moefana: Copy and paste from above. Moefana was the perfect foil for Romain Ntamack and Barrassi. He made good ground when crashing to the line but also made good decisions with ball in hand. 7
11 Louis Bielle-Biarrey: The Bordeaux speedster has now scored two tries in each of his three games this year. He timed his run perfectly for his first and kept his cool for the second. Each time he touched the ball, he caused havoc for the Welsh defence. Another unreal talent and one that looks primed to have a massive tournament. 8
10 Romain Ntamack: Played a supporting role, and rather well, to the magician that he partnered in the half-backs. It’s been a long road back to international rugby for the cool-headed fly-half but he did not look off the pace until his lazy tackle attempt and was rightly red-carded. It was needless and could cost Les Bleus next week. 3

9 Antoine Dupont: A slow-ish start by his usual high standards but he did almost score the opening try. However, when he did hit his stride, he was simply unplayable as he set-up three of France’s first-half tries, booting an inch-perfect crosskick to Attissogbe and served the winger on a platter again soon after a stunning solo run. He capped off the half by assisting Bielle-Biarrey’s second try and by that time, Wales were out of the game as the magical scrum-half completely outplayed Warren Gatland’s men. It was a sensational 50-minute performance as his head coach called his number to save him for round two and who can blame him for that, Dupont is just that important. Incredible. 9

Loose forwards
8 Grégory Alldritt: The official man of the match in an all-action shift jampacked with brutally effective moments. Last year’s stand-in captain was a titan over the ball, relentless in defence and punched holes in the Welsh defence with blockbuster carries. He put the cherry on top with the final crossing in the seven-try thrashing. 9
7 Paul Boudehent: Quietly effective as he and Francois Cros played a huge role in getting rapid attacking rucks for Les Blues. A work-horse around the park and simply ticked all the important boxes in a shift that will go largely unheralded. 8
6 François Cros: His services were required for only a hour before Galthie unloaded the bench. But he did what was required of him and did it well. There are very few, if any, better flankers on attacking rucks than the Frenchman and he a pest on defence too. 8
Tight five
5 Emmanuel Meafou: It took a mere two seconds of the Championship for the man mountain to flatten his first victim and he continued in that form throughout his shift with mighty, mighty carries throughout and on occasion, he brilliantly got the ball away in contact too. Played just 50 minutes but was a big reason why France were up 28-0 by the time he trotted off. 7
4 Alexandre Roumat: His first professional start in the second-row and it took a bit of time for him to settle in but once he did, he impressed enough to possibly retain the jersey for next week. The biggest positive from his performance was the lineouts as he was almost a surety when he called it on himself. 8
3 Uini Atonio: A few wobbles in the scrums early on but recovered enough to have a component performance in the set-piece. Made good use of his enormous frame with ball in hand. 6
2 Peato Mauvaka: Not quite as box-office as we have come accustomed too from the brilliant hooker but he didn’t need to be at that level. Still, it was not a poor performance in the slightest. 7
1 Jean-Baptiste Gros: Impressed around the park and on both sides of the ball in a strong shift with little fuss. 7
Replacements: Galthie pulled the trigger early on a lot of his substitutions after a sluggish start to the second half but once the bench settled, Wales just couldn’t keep up as Les Bleus grabbed a further three tries. 8
