France player ratings: Gregory Alldritt stars as Les Bleus impress in Rugby World Cup opener

Gregory Alldritt on the charge for France v All Blacks in Rugby World Cup opener.

Following a 27-13 victory over the All Blacks in the Rugby World Cup opener at the Stade de France on Friday, here are the player ratings for France.

15 Thomas Ramos: Kicked excellently, both out of hand and off the tee. Perhaps put boot to ball too much at times off turnovers, but his accuracy kept the All Blacks at arm’s length. 7

14 Damian Penaud: Really came into the game in the second period after a quiet first half. Constantly dangerous when he got the ball and was rewarded with a try. 8

13 Gael Fickou: Once again excellent defensively and a few nice touches in attack. 7

12 Yoram Moefana: Just doesn’t quite have the same influence as Jonathan Danty. Did a reasonable job, but lacks the punch at close quarters of Danty. 6

11 Gabin Villiere: Some nice things but not the influence of his opposite wing Penaud, who was always involved after the break. 6

10 Matthieu Jalibert: Filled in superbly for Romain Ntamack, with his assist for Penaud’s try especially sublime. He displayed creativity and made good decisions throughout. 8

9 Antoine Dupont (c): The whole Stade de France was stunned when he actually made a mistake, while Aaron Smith did his best to put him under pressure – with some success – but he was otherwise flawless. 8

Stunning back-row display

8 Gregory Alldritt: An immense effort of carrying, tackling and breakdown excellence. He is some player. 9

7 Charles Ollivon: One lineout steal and a big shift in defence from the former captain. 7

6 Francois Cros: A crucial player for France. He is always effective at the coalface and once again shone in that area on Friday. 8

5 Thibaud Flament: Lineout went pretty smoothly and he had his moments with ball in hand. A very different player to Paul Willemse but he stood up physically. 7

4 Cameron Woki: Quieter than his locking partner but solid in the set-piece. 6

3 Uini Atonio: Scrummaged very well against the imposing Ethan de Groot and put himself about in the loose. 7

2 Julien Marchand: Awful to see him go off with what looked like a hamstring injury early on. We very much hope it’s not serious. N/A

1 Reda Wardi: Standing in for Cyril Baille but he did a magnificent job. Had Nepo Laulala under duress at the scrum and did plenty of great work in the loose. 8

Replacements: Peato Mauvaka was utterly stunning after coming on for Marchand, while Romain Taofifenua, Arthur Vincent and Melvyn Jaminet, as well as the replacement props, all made an impact. 8
