Former Bath Rugby head coach Andy Robinson returns to the Premiership club next season along with ex-Scotland forward Stevie Scott.

Bath have made two appointments ahead of the 2023/24 season, with former head coach Andy Robinson and ex-Scotland forward Stevie Scott joining their coaching team.

Robinson, who led Bath to Heineken Cup glory in 1997, has been appointed as head academy coach after working as a consultant with the team last season.

Scott played 11 times for Scotland in the front-row and joins the side as the new scrum coach.

Andy Robinson returns

Bath head of rugby Johann van Graan welcomed the appointment of Robinson.

“I’m excited to have Andy with us, and I couldn’t think of a better man to coach here at Bath,” Van Graan told Bath’s official website.

“Andy has achieved a tremendous amount in both his playing and coaching career and is a well-known face in the city. It’ll be great for all of us here to have someone so deeply connected to Bath’s professional rugby history.”

Robinson recently coached the Romanian national team and led England between 2004 and 2006. He was also the head coach of Scotland between 2009 and 2012.

He returns to the club that he represented 249 times during his playing days and the side he coached to European success 25 years ago.

“I’m glad to be back at Bath, and I’m looking forward to making a change on the pitch,” Robinson said upon the confirmation of his appointment.

“There’s a great group of players here, and I’m excited to see what I can achieve with the team.”

New scrum coach

Scott has coaching experience with the Sale as well as the Utah Warriors and Watsonians; he joins Van Graan’s coaching staff following the departure of Neal Hatley to Australia.

“I’m delighted to be joining Bath Rugby. I think it’s a really exciting time for the club, and thankful for the opportunity to work with top-class players and coaches,” said Scott.

“Bath is home to some of the best forwards in the Premiership, and I’m looking forward to a successful season.”

Van Graan added: “Stevie is a hugely experienced coach, and he’s the right type of person I want coaching with me at the club.

“He’s worked across multiple different competitions, and adding him to our coaching set-up will be invaluable for the development of our set-piece.”
