Fly-half headaches for Ireland

Date published: January 19 2015

Ireland coach Joe Schmidt is set to be short on options for the ten jersey ahead of the opening rounds of the Six Nations Championship.

Jonathan Sexton will not be available for Ireland’s opening game against Italy on 7 February nor the Round Two clash with France due to an enforced layoff following a series of concussions.

And now in-form Ulster fly-half Paddy Jackson is likely to miss the entire tournament after suffering a dislocated elbow in Saturday’s European Champions Cup defeat to Toulon.

Leinster’s Ian Madigan and Munster’s Ian Keatley are set to vie for the starting fly-half berth although Madigan has been playing most of his rugby at inside centre for his province.
