Not all Bath fans were celebrating their side’s 42-26 Premiership victory over local rivals Gloucester at the Rec the week before last.

For Emily, her evening was spent in A&E after she sustained an unusual injury from the stands as she broke her wrist trying to punch one of Finn Russell’s booming touch-finding kicks back onto the field.

When the Bath and Scotland fly-half became aware of the incident, he showed his class by arranging a photograph and signed jersey for the female fan at Saturday’s 47-28 win over Harlequins.

A touch of class

After being made aware of the news, the West Country club invited Emily and her partner, Connor, to the Rec.

They looked after the couple with complimentary tickets, food, and drink – a more civilised affair than the unexpected hospital rush a week prior.

Following another home victory for the table toppers, the Scottish international met Emily and presented her with a Bath jersey that he signed with the message, “To Emily. Sorry about the Arm. Hope you recover quickly!”

All’s well that ends well

Connor (@Bath_Hooper) documented the aftermath of the unfortunate accident through X, remaining upbeat despite the less-than-ideal ordeal.

He shared: “Finn the muscle Russell sent my girlfriend to A&E today with a hell of a kick! Broken wrist but still supporting @BathRugby.”

A week later, following a second consecutive Bath bonus-point win, he shared his gratitude for Russell‘s, the kit manager’s and the club’s kind gesture in response to the fateful kick.

“Rugby is a team sport, rarely known for the individuals. Unless you’re Finn Russell. Even though my partner was collateral damage when Finn was doing his job for @BathRugby.

“He still reached out to offer his apologies (even though he wasn’t at fault). Finn and the team kit manager also gifted her a match day jersey with a message. Confirming that Bath are not only the best club in England right now but the most fan-orientated there is.

“Thank you @finn_russell. You’ve made her wrist all worth it.”

Both Bath and the couple will be glad the only misfortune in recent weeks has occurred off the field with the side dominating in the Premiership.

The club are sitting pretty, 10 points clear at the top of the table and seem to be in cruise control as we move into the business end of the season.

They face Premiership strugglers Exeter Chiefs at Sandy Park before hosting bottom of the table Newcastle Falcons at home and will fancy a pair of victories to solidify their place at the summit.
