Finn Russell ruled out of France showdown

Scotland have suffered a setback ahead of their Six Nations clash with France in Paris this Saturday after fly-half Finn Russell was ruled out.

Russell sustained a blow to the head during Racing 92’s Top 14 game against Toulouse on Sunday which initially made him a doubt for this week.

However, it has now been confirmed by Scotland that the mercurial number 10 will miss the Round Three clash as his team look to bounce back from their defeat to Ireland.

“The 26-year-old playmaker has not satisfied the requirements of today’s component of the graduated return to play protocol – two days on from sustaining the injury in Racing 92’s Top 14 clash with Toulouse – meaning there is insufficient time for him to be considered for this weekend’s action,” read a statement.

“He will now return to the care of his club’s medical team.”

It is now likely that Adam Hastings will start at fly-half this weekend, with Pete Horne and recent call-up Duncan Weir other options available to head coach Gregor Townsend.
