French fly-half Camille Lopez.

Camille Lopez is a well-respected name in French rugby but the fly-half was the butt of the joke this week after a terrible tackle attempt.

The 35-year-old fly-half is known for his glittering career at Clermont and earned over 20 Test caps for his country.

However, the playmaker is now turning out for Bayonne who he joined ahead of the 2022/23 Top 14 season.

Reaction to Camille Lopez’s mare

With his career winding down, perhaps Lopez can be excused for making “business decision” by not putting himself right in the firing line and during the final round of the Top 14 regular season he certainly made that call.

Up against Castres, Lopez was sprinting on the cover defence with Fijian lock Leone Nakarawa receiving the ball out on the wing.

With the powerhouse forward charging down the touchline, Lopez comically attempted a tackle, if you can even call it that, as he sprung into the air and managed to get hands on the Castres star.

It was almost as if the French fly-half was playing a two-handed touch as he leapt into the air, touching Nakarawa’s shoulder with the Fijian barely breaking stride as he raced over the line.

The video has since got over a million views on social media platform X alone with fans tearing the France number 10 to shreds for his awful attempt.

Damian de Allende: ‘People forget what France did to host the World Cup’

“Camille Lopez out there making business decisions,” one fan wrote.

Sam Roberts joked: “I would never have made it as a pro rugby player and yet Camille Lopez makes me think I might have had a chance…”

“How can I make it look like I’m making a real effort….. and end up looking ridiculous. Take a bow son….,” former England back Tom May added, possibly speaking from experience?

Another comment read: “I’ve seen this so many times today and laugh every time! Worst tackle attempt of all time!”

One fan said that it was “arguably the most embarrassing thing” they had seen on a rugby pitch.

“Sorry lads, I tried. Gave it my all,” another joked.

Bayonne would go on to lose the fixture 38-17, which would see Castres miss out on the Top 14 play-offs.
