Fans ‘gutted’ as Gabriel Hamer-Webb moves on amid WRU crisis

Fans 'gutted' as Cardiff star confirms exit amid WRU crisis
Cardiff Rugby fans have expressed their severe displeasure this afternoon as the club confirmed that the talented Gabriel Hamer-Webb, whose mother is from Cardiff, will be leaving the club this summer.
Hamer-Webb arrived at Cardiff Arms Park with high hopes when he initially travelled over the Severn Bridge from Bath, where he struggled to find regular game time or form.
Despite only staying for a season and a half, the 24-year-old truly reinvigorated his career in the Welsh capital, as he built up quite the fan-base in the light blue shirt, scoring an average of a try every other match.
In a post shared by the club on social media, the Welsh-qualified winger thanked the fans and the club for the opportunity to represent the city that means so much for his family, before adding that he’d like to thank his teammates and the fans for the memories he will leave with.
Fans express disappointment that Hamer-Webb is leaving
Commenting on the news, many fans noted his impressive recent form, with one saying: “Really stepped it up a notch towards the end of the season. Sherratt really gave him a chance and saw the potential. All the best.”
While another pondered whether a Wales call-up will still be on the cards: “Well that’s disappointing news. He really hit his stride during the final run in. Wish him all the best though and hope wherever he ends up he carries on his end of season form. If he does I wouldn’t rule out seeing him in a Welsh jersey one day.”
The impact that the speedy wide man had on the Cardiff community was clear to see, with one person simply saying: “Absolutely Gutted !! Would of loved Gabe to stay long term, hopefully he gets the move he deserves after recent form, Best of Luck Gabe.”

With the news surrounding the Welsh Rugby Union largely negative in recent months, one person did make the hard point, saying: “Can you blame him. Welsh rugby is a bin fire and his current club are in administration.”
Whatever the case, fans will certainly miss him.
There’s been no confirmation yet, as to where he will be going, but there will no doubt be plenty of potential suitors.
