Worcester Warriors have unveiled ex-Wales scrum-half Lloyd Williams as their fifth signing ahead of their phoenix campaign in next season’s Championship.

Suspended from the Gallagher Premiership since September 2022 following financial difficulties, the Sixways outfit are pressing ahead with ambitious recruitment plans under new owners after sealing a return to action in the English second tier.

After Leicester assistant Matt Everard was named head coach last week, ex-England internal Matt Kvesic became their first signing for the 2025/26 campaign, rejoining the club he was made redundant at when it closed for business nearly three years ago.

Kvesic’s signing from Coventry was followed by the recruitment of Ealing’s Josh Bassett, Tiff Eden from Saracens and Tim Anstee from Western Force and the arrival now of Williams brings the Worcester list of signings to five.

A veteran of the 2011 and 2015 Rugby World Cups, the 35-year-old won the last of his 32 Wales caps in 2021 when coming on as a replacement versus Italy in a title-winning Six Nations campaign.

“Perfect environment for a new opportunity”

After spending more than a decade playing for Cardiff, Williams switched to Ealing in the summer of 2023 and he now swaps Championship clubs following two seasons in London.

“There is a real buzz around Worcester Warriors right now and it’s the perfect environment for a new opportunity,” he explained in the latest social media update from the revitalised Sixways club.

“I love a challenge and the chance to help this club rise and thrive is something I couldn’t pass up. I can’t wait to call Sixways home.

Head coach Everard added: “Lloyd is an outstanding player with an incredible amount of international and European experience.

“When I first met him I was very impressed by his calm manner and I know this style of leadership will be brilliant for us bringing a full team together.”
