Even cramp can’t stop ‘Junkyard Dog’ creating history for Reds
Wallabies hopeful Tim Ryan created history in their triumph over the Force on Saturday when he became the first Reds player to score two Super Rugby hat-tricks.
Ryan, also known as the ‘Junkyard Dog’, has been in outstanding form this campaign and once again impressed for the Queensland outfit in a 59-13 home triumph.
The 20-year-old flyer is banging on the Wallabies door at the moment and his treble against the Western Force was completed with just six minutes left in the game.
Cramped up
However, it was clear that his efforts in the fixture had taken a toll as the Reds wing cramped up en route to crossing for his third and final score at Suncorp Stadium.
Taking a pass from James O’Connor, Ryan set off for the whitewash but before he reached the try-line the ‘Junkyard Dog’ was in a world of pain as the footage shows.

Such pain is temporary though and the Wallabies hopeful will no doubt be delighted with his latest scoring feat, which means he is now on nine tries this season.

As mentioned, he is also the first Reds player ever to boast two Super Rugby hat-tricks as he continues to catch the eye in his debut Super Rugby Pacific season.
Ryan’s first try of the night came after he rose above Force wing Ronan Leahy to collect a well executed Tate McDermott cross-kick with six minute on the clock.
His second arrived on the 44th minute as turnover ball was capitalised on by the hosts, with Jock Campbell’s injection of pace helping give Ryan a clear run-in.
That was the Reds’ fourth try of the game and they would add a further four scores in the second period before Ryan went over for his third and their final try.
Test call?
Wallabies head coach Joe Schmidt will no doubt be keeping an eye on the youngster and it will be interesting to see if his form is rewarded with a Test call-up.
Australia kick off their Test campaign with a game against Wales at Allianz Stadium on July 6 before facing them again a week later and then Georgia on July 20.
The focus then turns to the Rugby Championship and back-to-back internationals against the Springboks before they tackle Argentina twice and then New Zealand.
