England star claims prestigious Autumn Nations Series award despite missing out on team prize
England star George Ford has scooped a key award following the Autumn Nations Series.
England fly-half George Ford has been named the Northern Hemisphere Player of the Series, following England’s unbeaten Autumn Nations Series campaign.
The Sale Sharks ace took a starring role in three of England’s victories over the Wallabies, the All Blacks and Argentina, namely scooping the Player of the Match gong against New Zealand too.
Ford beat fellow England man Ben Earl, France’s Louis Bielle-Biarrey and Italy star Tomasso Menoncello to the gong, coming out top in a public vote.

Ford notched 30 points across his three outings, a tally which included six conversions, three trademark drop-goals and three penalties, while also posting a 100% passing success rate – the only fly-half to do so.

This award also caps off a strong year for the Sale Sharks man, for both club and country. After losing his spot in last year’s Autumn Nations Series, and only being limited to a brief cameo appearance off the bench against Wales in the Six Nations, Ford once again established himself as England’s starting fly-half on the tour of the Americas, playing a crucial role in the series whitewash over Los Pumas and the standalone Test against the USA.
He then hit the ground running in the early days of the new PREM season, before being selected ahead of British and Irish Lions tourists Fin and Marcus Smith as England’s number 10.
His selection over back-rower Earl is interesting, though, with the Saracens man being named England Player of the Series in a fan vote last week, beating out Ford, Immanuel Feyi-Waboso and Alex Mitchell with 38% of the total vote.
