England break all-time rankings record bettering the All Blacks and Springboks after unprecedented winning record
The Red Roses defended their WXV 1 title this weekend against Canada
The Red Roses have become the first-ever team to surpass 97 World Rankings points following an unprecedented winning rate of 50 from 51 matches, including their last 20 in a row.
John Mitchell’s side defended their WXV 1 title in Vancouver this past weekend and now sit on an astonishing rankings score of 97.56.
Red Roses smash all-time rankings record
The Red Roses’ victory over hosts Canada in the final WXV 1 match gifted them 0.60 points in the rankings charts, which took them over their own previous record of 96.99 points just before their 2021 World Cup final defeat to New Zealand.
The win in Vancouver now makes them the first team in the game, both men’s and women’s, to surpass 97 rankings points; besting the imperious back-to-back World Cup-winning All Blacks and Springboks to the honour.
Elsewhere in the Women’s game, Canada sit in second place on 89.31 points, New Zealand are in third on 88.64 points and France find themselves fourth on 85.11 points.
Australia and Italy are the biggest movers in the rankings though following their respective WXV 2 campaigns. The Wallaroos’ title triumph sees them climb up seven spots into fifth, with a total of 78.10. Italy’s two wins also see them skyrocket up nine places to take eighth spot, and they now hold a total of 74.75.
Red Roses dominance represented by bizarre stat
The dominance of the Red Roses over the women’s game is already huge, but a bizarre stat underlines just how impressive they are at this moment in time.
Posting on X, Squidge Rugby detailed that the Red Roses can now only gain rankings points for beating Canada and New Zealand, and wouldn’t even gain anything from winning Six Nations matches!
England are now so far ahead of the competition, they can only gain ranking points from playing Canada or New Zealand (Numbers 2 & 3). They could put 90 points on everyone in the Six Nations and not gain a single 0.01. https://t.co/gROuyvdqDd
