Henry Slade in action for Exeter Chiefs

Exeter Chiefs and England centre Henry Slade has had another operation following the conclusion of England’s summer series against the All Blacks.

The 31-year-old, who started in all three of England‘s games on the tour to Japan and New Zealand, had previously suffered from a shoulder injury and went under the knife last year following his omission from the Rugby World Cup squad.

Slade has missed the start of Exeter’s pre-season campaign due to his commitments with the national team, and this latest surgery seems to rule him out of action for even longer. It is unclear the exact date he will return to training.

Henry Slade commits future to Exeter

Slade is the one of the last surviving members of the Exeter‘s golden generation’ at the club, and he will be at Sandy Park for another season after agreeing a new deal with the Chiefs.

Since his debut back in 2012, he has gone onto make 224 appearances for the Devonians, racking up an impressive tally of 793 points along the way. He has also helped the club win two Premiership titles, three Premiership Cups and one Champions Cup.

“There were a lot of factors behind my decision to stay at Exeter Chiefs,” he said on signing a new deal. “I love the club, I’m from just down the road and my family get to come nearly every weekend to watch me play at Sandy Park.”

He added: “I joined the academy at 18, so the club is all I’ve ever really known as a professional rugby player. I feel very lucky to be able to say I’ve represented the club over 200 times. I call Exeter my home. I’ve started a young family here – my eldest daughter starts school in September – so it just felt right to stay. The club has been my whole adult life, so I just didn’t feel like it was time to go.

“There’s an extremely strong group coming through now, and I’m relishing being one of the senior boys in amongst a group with so much potential to do some great things.”

Slade has also become a senior England international, and has 65 caps to his name.
