Edinburgh beat Benetton in 12-try URC epic while Munster and Zebre Parma edge Lions and Ospreys

Edinburgh back-row Magnus Bradbury celebrating.
Edinburgh picked up an incredible 50-33 win over Benetton in what was very much a match of two halves in the United Rugby Championship (URC) on Saturday.
A half-time scoreline of 35-0 in favour of Edinburgh suggested the fixture was dead and buried as a contest, but Benetton had other ideas as they launched an epic fightback.
However, the Italian outfit came up just short in their comeback efforts at Hive Stadium with Edinburgh eventually scoring a late try to calm their fans’ nerves once and for all.

Edinburgh’s try scorers in a profitable first half were Duhan van der Merwe, Ben Muncaster, Magnus Bradbury (2) and Paul Hill, with Ross Thompson converting each try.
Ali Price and Muncaster added to their team’s tally in the second period and replacement Ben Healy was on hand to convert Muncaster’s try as Edinburgh took a maximum.

As mentioned, there was no trouble to the Benetton scoreboard during the opening 40 minutes before Paolo Odogwu, Agustin Creevy (2), Alessandro Izekor and Malakai Fekitoa crossed after the break. Jacob Umaga converted four of those crossings as the Italians come away from this match with a bonus point for their efforts.
Munster edge past Lions
Elsewhere, Munster picked up a much-needed 17-10 victory over the Lions in an end-to-end clash at Thomond Park that is just their third victory of the URC campaign.
Thaakir Abrahams, Shane Daly and Alex Kendellen scored the home side’s tries while Billy Burns kicked one conversion in an error-strewn match between the two teams.
The Lions, who suffer just their second defeat of the URC season, grabbed one try through Henco Van Wyk and it was an absolute scorcher from the classy outside centre.
Kade Wolhuter sent over a conversion and a penalty before he was replaced due to injury as the URC now heads into another breather, this time for European club action.
Zebre overcome Ospreys
Finally, Zebre Parma claimed their second win of the URC campaign as they saw off the Ospreys in a 22-17 victory that moves them level on points with the Welsh region.
Two first-half crossings from the superb Simone Gesi were added to by one from Jacopo Trulla after the interval as Giacomo Da Re kicked two conversions and a penalty.
Daniel Kasende and Lewis Lloyd crossed for Ospreys as they follow Munster in becoming the second team to go down at the home of Zebre Parma in the URC this term.
