Double setback for Scotland as key duo set to miss start of Six Nations
Scotland front-row Javan Sebastian and full-back Ollie Smith.
Scotland could be without the services of Javan Sebastian and Ollie Smith for the start of the upcoming Six Nations after the duo were injured while on club duty over the weekend.
Front-row forward Sebastian sustained a knee injury during Edinburgh’s 34-21 victory against Castres in their Challenge Cup match at Hive Stadium on Saturday.
Edinburgh head coach Sean Everitt confirmed that the 29-year-old will not be available for selection for the Scottish capital club’s 1872 Cup derby against Glasgow Warriors at Scotstoun on Friday night.
“Javan will be out for six to eight weeks,” said Sean Everitt.
Sebastian‘s injury is a blow for the player as he was hoping to establish himself further in the Scotland set-up during the Six Nations as the back-up tighthead prop behind Zander Fagerson.
Edinburgh boosted by veteran’s return
His absence for the Glasgow Warriors clash will be offset by the return of veteran front-row WP Nel, who missed Edinburgh’s clash with Castres due to injury.
Edinburgh have received another shot in the arm after it was confirmed that Argentina flyer Emiliano Boffelli was declared fit to face the Warriors after being sidelined through injury since Los Pumas’ World Cup campaign.
However, Scotland full-back Smith could also be ruled for months after injuring his knee in the Warriors’ Champions Cup victory over Bayonne at the Stade Jean Dauger last Friday.
According to Warriors assistant coach Pete Murchie, there is plenty of concern over Smith’s injury although they are not sure how long he will be sidelined as they are still waiting on the the results of scans.
