Disgraced France international who was sentenced for domestic violence arrested AGAIN
France and Montpellier prop Mohamed Haouas.
France and Montpellier prop Mohamed Haouas has once again hit the headlines for all the wrong reasons after being arrested at the weekend.
Just a few days after signing a new two-year contract with his club, the tighthead was apprehended for drunk driving on the night between Saturday, December 7 and Sunday, December 8, according to reports in France.
Haouas‘s alcohol level was found to be well above the one gram per litre of blood limit after driving his car around the La Paillade district of Montpellier.
Unconscious at the wheel
It is claimed that two passers-by alerted the police after they discovered him unconscious at the wheel of his parked vehicle.
“One of the witnesses even broke the window of the vehicle to check the condition of the French international,” a police source told France 3 Occitanie.
It has also been reported that when he was arrested, there was a bottle of vodka on the front passenger seat of his car. He was then taken to the police station where he was placed in a drunk tank to sober up before being taken into custody.
The France international, who was released on Monday morning, will appear in court on February 4 “as part of a procedure of appearance on prior admission of guilt”, the prosecutor told AFP.
Last year Haouas had his contract at Clermont Auvergne, which had been pre-agreed ahead of the 2023/24 season, cancelled after he was sentenced to a year in prison for hitting his wife.

From Biarritz to Montpellier
Despite his conviction, Biarritz signed the disgraced prop in July 2023 before he agreed a contract to return to Montpellier ahead of the 2024/25 campaign, a decision which was heavily criticised.
President Mohed Altrad defended the deal, telling Midi Libre: “We have a project for him. We want to support him, help him, put him on the right path. Even more than in the past. And from a sporting perspective, we need it.”
Those views were echoed by Montpellier director of rugby Bernard Laporte, who believed he should be given a second chance.
“Doesn’t he have the right to a new chance? Hasn’t he paid? Mohamed Haouas, I’ve been talking to him for several months,” Laporte told Midi Olympique in August.
“There was a real desire on the part of the president and me to bring him back. He went off the rails, but we shouldn’t talk to him anymore? Justice has been done, and he has the right to get his act together.”
