Dirksen suffers ‘significant knee injury’

Ospreys are sweating over the fitness of wing Hanno Dirksen after he left the field against Cardiff Blues with a "significant knee injury".

After scoring twice on Saturday, he is a concern for Ospreys, with Medical Performance Manager, Chris Towers, issuing an update on Tuesday.

“Hanno picked up a significant knee ligament injury on Saturday. He'll be scanned this week and we’ll get specialist opinion, and after we’ve run through our processes will be in a position to confirm the full extent of the problem and the best course of treatment for Hanno," he said.

In other news, second-row Adam Beard suffered a crush injury to the lower leg against Cardiff Blues, with no significant damage caused.

"There is potential that he will have Adam in contention for Saturday. He’ll be closely monitored with a decision on his availability made later in the week," Towers added before giving an update on prop Nicky Smith.

"Nicky was removed from play for a head injury assessment. There are no concerns at this stage and, providing he progresses through the return to play protocols, he remains a potential option for the coaches this weekend."
