Danny Care “ain’t leaving” Harlequins as the veteran scrum-half reveals that he will continue his playing career beyond this season.

The former England international recently turned 38 years old and while many expected this to be his final season of professional rugby, he says that is not the case.

Instead, he will extend his storied Harlequins career into a 20th campaign in the Famous Quarters.

Danny Care extends Harlequins’ stay

Care has featured in a club record 386 games and has played more Premiership matches (290) than any other currently active player. In fact, the scrum-half will look to close in on Richard Wigglesworth’s all-time appearance record in the league’s history (322) next season.

A Premiership title winner in 2012 and 2021 with Harlequins and a Challenge Cup winner in 2011, Care revealed that he would be sticking around for another season on BBC’s Rugby Union Weekly podcast.

“I will be at Harlequins next season,” Care declared.

“I ain’t leaving – I love it too much, I can’t give it up yet. Hopefully, a few Quins fans will be happy with that decision, a few might want me out.

“I love it too much and that game [the ‘Big Game’ 34-34 Premiership draw against Leicester in December] probably reminded me again just how lucky I am, how fortunate I am to still play this game we love and to still play for the club that I love.

“I’m not going to give it up while I still enjoy it.”

Mass re-signings at Harlequins

Despite Will Porter taking on more responsibility in the starting line-up for Quins this season, Care has still managed 11 appearances for the team across the Premiership and Investec Champions Cup.

Last March, he announced his retirement from international rugby after notching up 101 caps for England being one of only six men to reach the milestone for his country.

Care’s re-signing comes off the back of several Quins players penning new deals at the club including the likes of Marcus Smith, Alex Dombrandt Will Evans, Fin Baxter, Nick David, Stephen Lewies, Sam Riley, Tyrone Green, Cassius Cleaves, Will Porter and Cadan Murley.
