Clermont put Stade to the sword

Clermont moved clear of the chasing pack at the top of the table after beating Stade Français 36-10 at Stade Marcel Michelin on Sunday.

The home side were full value for their win, outscoring Stade three tries to one with Morgan Parra leading the way with a 23-point haul via a try, three conversions and four penalties.

Clermont made a bright start and raced in to a 6-0 lead, inside the opening quarter, when Parra slotted two penalties. Scott Spedding then extended their lead when he landed a penalty in the 27th minute before Morne Steyn got Stade's opening points via the kicking tee five minutes later.

The kicking duel continued as Parra added another penalty, shortly afterwards, which meant the home side were leading 12-3 by the 35 minute mark.

Things took a turn for the worse for Stade just before the half-time break when Rabah Slimani was yellow carded and soon afterwards Clermont were awarded a penalty try which meant they led 17-3 at half-time.

From the restart, Clermont continued to dominate and they extended their lead in the 41st minute when John Ulugia crossed for their second try before Djibril Camara struck back with his side's only try 10 minutes later.

Steyn converted but that would the last time the visitors would score points as Clermont dominated during the final quarter. Parra was the destroyer-in-chief adding another penalty and a try which he also converted.
