The Bulls have confirmed the signing of experienced Springbok hooker Schalk Brits on a one-year contract for next year’s Super Rugby competition.

Brits was initially supposed to return to the Stormers where he played Super Rugby in 2006, but due to the financial complications, the deal could not be completed and the Bulls have now snapped up the 36-year-old.

Brits, who spent nine years at Saracens where he firmly established himself as a fans’ favourite, was a surprise recall to Rassie Erasmus’ November internationals and looks set to be named as the third hooker for the Springboks’ 2019 World Cup squad to go to Japan.

“Brits will be joining the team in Pretoria early in 2019, and is extremely excited about his upcoming stint with the Bulls,” the Bulls’ union said via a press statement on Friday.
