Bristol Bears tie down ‘world-class’ international after ‘devastating’ start to Premiership season
Kalaveti Ravouvou in action for Bristol Bears
Bristol Bears back Kalaveti Ravouvou has put pen to paper on a new deal with the West Country outfit, following his red-hot start to the Premiership campaign.
The versatile back, who has formed a devastating midfield partnership with Benhard Janse van Rensburg this season, joined the Bears from the Fijian Drua in 2023.
“World-class” Ravouvou commits future to Bristol Bears
Ravouvou has been one of the Bears’ standout players in their march to second spot in the table. He currently sits seventh in the metres charts with 467 to his name, which includes his mammoth tally of 230 in the win over Leicester Tigers – the second most in a single Premiership game.
He has also notched seven tries in his seven games for the Bears this year, including braces against Northampton, Bedford Blues and Leicester.
Commenting on the news, director of rugby Pat Lam said: “It’s great to see Kala fully settled in the club and the city, which has seen him go from strength to strength since arriving at the Bears.
Jamie George: ‘I never dreamed of being able to achieve all this’
“I believe we’re all seeing his world-class ability come to the fore with some outstanding performances this season.”
He added: “He is one of the most devastating backs in the competition, demonstrated by his outstanding performance against Leicester Tigers earlier this month and his recent shortlisting for Premiership Player of the Month.
“Kala’s ability to play across the backline is huge for us with a smaller squad and we look forward to seeing him develop further over the next few seasons.”
Ravouvou added: “I’ve really enjoyed my time at Bristol so far and love the culture, environment and my teammates, so it was an easy decision to stay.”
“The brand of rugby here really suits my game and I’m excited to see what this team can achieve over the next few years.”
The Fijian international, who has four caps to his name, also saw his form rewarded with a nomination for Premiership Player of the Month, alongside fellow Bears centre Janse van Rensburg. Ted Hill and Ben Curry have also been nominated for the award.
