Boyd signs new contract

Hurricanes head coach Chris Boyd has signed a two-year contract extension with 2016's Super Rugby champions in a boost after their title win.

Boyd, who led the 'Canes to glory this year after falling at the final hurdle in 2015, was delighted with the 20-3 victory over the Lions.

"I couldn't have faced another loss at home. It took me, personally, months to get over losing last year's final," the coach told AFP.

It's since been announced that Boyd will be staying on at Westpac Stadium, which will come as pleasing news to Hurricanes fans.

"He's just an outstanding rugby coach," Hurricanes chief executive Avan Lee told Radio Sport when the news broke of Boyd's deal.

"People talk about all these amazing international rugby coaches around the world, but Chris Boyd, I have so much respect for him as a guy and as a coach."
