Bath player ratings: England prop’s ‘shocker’ proves costly after classy backline ‘deconstructs’ Jacques Nienaber’s defence

Bath celebrate v Leinster after fine try and Ollie Lawrence in action.
Following a 47-21 defeat to Leinster in the Investec Champions Cup clash at the Aviva Stadium on Saturday, here are the player ratings for Bath.
15 Tom de Glanville: Has hit a good run of form recently and was very good despite Bath’s defeat at the Aviva Stadium. Was always a threat with ball in hand and could come into England contention later in the year. 8
14 Joe Cokanasiga: Showed why he hasn’t been favoured by Steve Borthwick over recent times. Considering his size, Cokanasiga struggles in the air, while the wing did not do much with ball in hand. 4
Classy centres
13 Ollie Lawrence: A classy performance from the talented centre, especially in the first half as he linked well with his Bath midfield partner. 8
12 Max Ojomoh: Like De Glanville, Ojomoh has played nicely over recent weeks. He has the athleticism and the size but he is also a lovely footballer. 8
11 Ruaridh McConnochie: Stepping in for the injured Will Muir and he just doesn’t quite have the same dynamism. Worked hard but didn’t get enough chances to impress with ball in hand. 5
10 Finn Russell: A very good first half as Bath deconstructed that Jacques Nienaber defence very effectively. Also started the second period pretty well but the visitors waned after the red card. 7
9 Ben Spencer: Similar to Russell, Spencer had a fine first half. The scrum-half cleared his lines well and his decision-making was good, but the sending off was the half-backs’ undoing as they lost control. 7
8 Alfie Barbeary: Scored an early try and carried effectively, but faded as Leinster gained control of the encounter. 6
7 Miles Reid: One of the most unheralded players in the Premiership, but he never lets Bath down. Absolutely superb once again. 7
An England starter?
6 Ted Hill: After finally being named in the England squad, his Six Nations audition went rather well. A freakishly good athlete who is also a workhorse, which is a nice combination to have. 7
5 Ross Molony: Facing his former team, the second-row very much put himself about. Lineout went well initially but it did start to go awry later on. 6
4 Quinn Roux: Plenty of big hits from the former Ireland international, who was physical and abrasive, but he didn’t outshine the Leinster locks. 6
3 Will Stuart: His duel with Andrew Porter was fascinating but the Ireland star would eventually come out on top in the scrum. Stuart also did plenty of work around the field. 6
2 Niall Annett: Lineout functioned reasonably well, while the hooker is always an absolute nuisance at the breakdown, but the scrum struggled. 6
1 Beno Obano: It became a nightmare for the England prop. Could perhaps count himself unfortunate with both yellow cards, but ultimately the second came after he was consistently pummelled by Rabah Slimani. Unfortunately, he had a bit of a shocker. 3
Replacements: They may be a financial powerhouse in England, but their bench simply could not compete with that Leinster ‘Bomb Squad.’ They all had a bit of a tough day when they came on. 4
