Following a 39-34 victory against Wales in their Autumn Nations Series Test in Cardiff on Saturday, here are the player ratings for Australia.

15 Tom Wright: A solid enough performance bar what could have been a costly fumble from the restart on 74 minutes with the scores at 34-32. 6

14 Jordan Petaia: Was largely absent as a strong tour was ended in disappointing fashion for a special talent. Was replaced on the hour mark. 4

13 Len Ikitau: Slipped a tackle and offloaded nicely to Jed Holloway early on but it was his defence that stood out, with eight dominant hits. 7

12 Reece Hodge: Australia’s Mr Versatile filled in at 12 today and was fairly anonymous on attack. Like Ikitau, he defended admirably in Cardiff. 6

11 Mark Nawaqanitawase: What a performance from the young wing, finishing his two tries expertly as he ended the year with a superb showing. 9

10 Ben Donaldson: Given the start ahead of Noah Lolesio in a surprise move. He kicked well but struggled for go-forward ball, lasting 55 minutes. 5

9 Jake Gordon: Received a yellow card on 38 minutes for a cynical offside. Was replaced by Tate McDermott soon after the interval. 4

Bench made an impact late on

8 Langi Gleeson: Announced himself on the game with a big early hit on Josh Adams but struggled to grow into the game. Replaced on 50 minutes. 5

7 Fraser McReight: Was penalised for a no arms tackle on 26 minutes that cost his side three points. Didn’t really stand out with ball in hand. 5

6 Jed Holloway: Came close to going over in the first 40 but was bundled into touch. Kept the Welsh defence busy to cap a solid year-end tour. 7

5 Cadeyrn Neville: A quiet day at the office from Neville as the Wallabies forwards struggled to match Alun Wyn Jones and company in Cardiff. 4

4 Nick Frost: Got through more work than his lock partner as he put in an 80-minute shift which included nine tackles and four lineout takes. 5

3 Allan Alaalatoa: Played a key part in winning an early scrum penalty but Wales responded soon after and dominated at scrum time. Quiet. 4

2 Folau Fainga’a: An early overthrow that was also not straight but he was more solid thereafter. Scored a try from lineout drive on 33 minutes. 6

1 James Slipper: Came off for a HIA check early on and although he returned briefly, he was withdrawn not long after at the Principality Stadium. 4

Replacements: Tom Robertson was carded for repeated Wallaby scrum offences but after that the likes of Lachlan Lonergan and Tate McDermott shone as Australia’s replacements bench took the game by the scruff of the neck to seal a famous win. 9
