Aplon heading to Japan?

Grenoble utility back Gio Aplon could leave the French club after he was linked with a move to Japanese club Toyota Verblitz.

According to a Midi Olympique report, Aplon, who can play at full-back and on the wing, has already put pen to paper on a deal with Toyota Verblitz who will be coached by former Springbok coach Jake White.

Aplon represented the Springboks in 17 Tests and also played for Western Province and the Stormers from 2005 to 2013 before joining Grenoble in 2014.

The 35-year-old signed a three-year contract extension with Grenoble earlier this year.

However, the club was relegated from the Top 14 along with Bayonne and if Aplon has a get-out clause in his new deal it could pave the way for his move to Toyota Verblitz.
