Antoine Dupont shone for France as they kept their hopes of becoming the men’s 2024 HSBC SVNS champions alive in Madrid.
After producing a Player of the Match performance in the Investec Champions Cup final victory over Leinster, Dupont rejoined the France sevens team for the final SNVS tournament before the Olympic Games.
France defeated Australia in their opening game of the weekend before falling to a defeat at the hands of Argentina, meaning that they required a victory over Great Britain to progress into the semi-finals.

With Theo Forner in the sin bin and trailing Great Britain 12-5, France needed something special to take the game to extra time and they got it through their world-class star Dupont.
The 27-year-old received the ball just inside his 22 and brutally handed off Robbie Fergusson before sprinting away to score the try that would take the game to extra time.

After guiding Toulouse to victory in extra time in the Champions Cup final, Dupont rose to the occasion for his sevens side as he launched an attack inside his own half before linking up speedster Nelson Epee, who rounded off a stunning try to clinch a place in the final four for France where they will face Fiji.

Antoine Dupont’s reaction
“We didn’t really have a special plan for golden point but we knew that if we didn’t win this game it was finished for us so the most important thing was our experience and to never give up, to give everything until the end and that’s what we did,” Dupont said after the win over Great Britain.
“There are a lot of things that can be better tomorrow, we have to be more disciplined and we have to keep the ball more because when we have the ball we are dangerous.
“It’s tiring, I will sleep very well this night and give everything again tomorrow and we will see what happens.”
Commenting on his individual score that sent the game into extra-time, he added: “I didn’t really think in the moment, I just saw that I didn’t have a lot of space so I tried to go straight, the defender was going back so I tried. It worked for the team so it was important.
“We didn’t have a lot of space, they controlled a lot. They were going back all the time but they defended very so well so we had to find an opportunity.”
