Recently capped England international Henry Pollock scored a wonderful solo try for Northampton Saints in their Premiership meeting with Sale Sharks on Friday night.

The 20-year-old, who came off the bench to score two tries against Wales in their final Six Nations game of the 2025 campaign, is now back in club colours at Northampton.

He did not let the buzz around his name die down too as he put in another all-action performance in the Premiership fixture, with his solo crossing out of the top drawer.

Star quality

Sale Sharks were leading 17-12 at the break and the first score after the resumption was always going to be vital and it went to the way of the visiting Northampton outfit.

Pollock gathered the ball and sliced through a hole, doing well to ride the attempted tackle from Luke Cowan-Dickie. His skill-set then came to the fore as he chipped over the top and regathered before going over despite the challenge of opposite number Jean-Luc du Preez, who, like Sale, had no answer to what the youngster had just done.

That score pulled Northampton level but they would eventually go on to lose the game 27-24 in a result that sees them fall further adrift of the Premiership play-off positions.

Saints’ other tries came via Emmanuel Iyogun, Tommy Freeman and Fraser Dingwall but the champions sorely missed the leadership from Fin Smith at fly-half among others.

Tom O’Flaherty, Tom Roebuck (2) and Bevan Rodd scored for Sale Sharks as they move up to fourth place in the standings before the other teams run out over the weekend.

But much of the talk after tonight’s game will be Pollock’s try as Saints’ number eight continues to become attached to the words ‘Lions bolter’ after a fine 2025 thus far.

Praise galore

There was ample praise for the youngster once the try hit social media with Wales legend Jonathan Davies simply writing “Special player” as he quoted the video on X.

RugbyInsideLine made reference to the loudening noise about Pollock being a possible inclusion in Andy Farrell’s 2025 British and Irish Lions squad for the upcoming tour to Australia, writing in a glowing post on X: “You can just see him doing this in a Lions shirt chipping Joseph Sua’ali’i in the summer can’t you. Andy Farrell, are you watching?”

Replies to RugbyonTNT’s post included such comments as “Some talent”, “The kid’s dynamite”, “He’s going to be the goat” and “Wow he could well be a Lions bolter”.
