Experienced All Blacks and Hurricanes utility back Jordie Barrett and his long-time girlfriend Alice Marshall have announced their engagement.

The 28-year-old, who is New Zealand’s first choice inside centre, took to social media to make the announcement on Tuesday.

Barrett shared a photograph on Instagram of himself and his fiancée smiling at the camera with Marshall holding up her left hand to show off a new diamond ring.

Marshall’s Instagram account was tagged alongside the photograph and there was a simple caption with ring and heart emojis.

Received numerous well-wishing comments

At the time of writing, the post had received more than 28,000 likes and there were numerous well-wishing comments from family members, colleagues and team-mates, including current and former All Blacks.

Sonny Bill Williams, who is himself an ex-All Blacks inside centre, commented: “Congratulations my man” while Ardie Savea’s wife, Saskia, said: “Congratulations team!!”

Meanwhile, Savea, who apart from being Barrett’s team-mate at the All Blacks also played with him for several years at the Hurricanes before joining Moana Pasifika earlier this year, said: “Cheeehooo congrats team.”

All Blacks and Hurricanes scrum-half Cam Roigard had a similar message saying: “Congrats team” while fellow New Zealand number nine Cortez Ratima commented: “Congrats guys” and the men in black’s back-row Wallace Sititi said: “Yessir uso.”

Barrett has shone at inside centre for the Hurricanes and All Blacks in recent years but is a versatile player who is also comfortable at full-back and on the wing.

Test debut against Samoa

He made his debut for both club and country in the former position and has already won 77 All Blacks caps after making his Test bow in a 78-0 triumph over Samoa in 2017.

Barrett went on to represent the All Blacks against the British & Irish Lions later that year and also represented New Zealand at two Rugby World Cups in 2019 (Japan) and 2023 (France), where they won bronze and silver medals respectively.

Shortly before the All Blacks’ 2025 Test campaign, Barrett returned to New Zealand after a successful six-month stint with Irish province Leinster, who he helped to win the 2024/25 United Rugby Championship title.

Barrett was recently included in All Blacks coach Scott Robertson’s 36-member squad for their 2025 Grand Slam campaign which kicks off against Ireland in Chicago on November 1.

They will then head to the United Kingdom to take on Scotland at Murrayfield on November 8, England at Twickenham on November 15, and Wales at the Principality Stadium on November 22.
