Agustin Creevy hails ‘f***ing amazing’ win over All Blacks and immediately targets history at Eden Park
Argentina veteran Agustin Creevy lauded their stunning 38-30 victory over the All Blacks as “f***ing amazing” after they blew the Rugby Championship wide open.
The 39-year-old was hugely emotional at full-time after his try-scoring cameo off the bench helped Los Pumas claim only their second ever win in New Zealand.
Creevy wasn’t involved in the first back in 2022 which made this result in Wellington extra special as they scored four tries to the All Blacks three on Saturday.
Special win for Creevy
“It was amazing. We had a really good performance,” he told Sky Sport NZ immediately after the final whistle, adding that striking first was key in Wellington.
“We talked in the week to hit first and I think we hit first and we dominated the whole game and I think the result was for us.”
Creevy was influential off the bench as not only did he score what proved to be the match-winning try, he was also a threat at the breakdown to the All Blacks.
“Sometimes it’s 50/50 you know but today the luck was on my side,” he said before explaining just how special this victory is to him and the Los Pumas outfit.
“Look for me personally, I’m 39 and this is my first time here in my whole life to win in New Zealand. That is so important for me and for the whole team,” he said.
Argentina claim shock victory over All Blacks as Scott Robertson left with plenty to ponder
“We work a lot and it’s tough sometimes and now this game for us is f***ing amazing.
“Now, thinking, calm down, I want to win next week. That’s the most important, two games in a row, we’ve never done it and we hope for that.”
Meanwhile, Argentina captain Pablo Matera was also impressive in the win as he hailed his team for sticking to their pre-game plan, which certainly paid off.
“We had a great week of preparation. We had a plan and we stuck to the whole plan even when the score wasn’t in our favour and we just kept going and yeah, we got the win,” he said before touching on how he drives his team-mates.
“I’m very annoying on the field. I just keep pushing the boys, trying to give them energy cause I knew that we had a big chance today and we had to take it.”
It was evident at full-time how important the result was to Argentina and Matera admits their togetherness as a squad is what makes them such a driven team.
“You can see we are very connected,” he said. “We love spending time together and love getting to know each other and that’s where the energy of the team comes from.”
