New Zealand beat the USA to win the first men’s World Rugby Sevens Series competition of the season following a 21-5 triumph in Dubai.

They edged to the final after a 7-5 victory against England in the Cup semis but had too much quality in the showpiece event, touching down three times.

England finished third, beating Australia 15-14 in the Bronze final, having eliminated defending champions South Africa in the quarter-finals.

In the Challenge Trophy, Samoa defeated France 33-24 in the final, while Wales overcame Japan 31-7 in the 13th place play-off.
