Montpellier are hoping to tempt CJ Stander after offering the Ireland international €840,000 a year, according to the Irish Examiner.

The back-rower’s contract expires at the end of the season and, although the IRFU are confident of keeping hold of the South African-born player, the French club are looking to entice Stander with a huge offer.

Negotiations are ongoing between the 27-year-old and the governing body, with the Examiner claiming that they have tabled a bid which includes a basic salary of €400,000 per year, but Montpellier’s proposal could complicate matters.

While Ireland were dealt a blow with the departure of Simon Zebo, Peter O’Mahony and Tadhg Furlong signed new contracts last week and Munster will hope that Stander follows suit.
