McCall ruing missed bonus point

Saracens director of rugby Mark McCall is ruing the missed bonus point despite his side's 25-3 victory over Worcester at Sixways on Friday.

Sarries cruised to their fourth win out of five games this season but in missing out on a bonus point lost top spot to Newcastle, who did acquire a bonus point.

“Tonight was a bit of a mixed bag for us. Worcester deserve a lot of credit, they fought all game and defended very well," McCall said.

“It was frustrating that we had some small errors that meant we didn’t secure the bonus point.

“I suppose it’s a good sign that we’re leaving a very tough place like this frustrated despite keeping them to just three points.

“We showed some real resolve and energy defensively, which is very encouraging.”

Meanwhile, Worcester Warriors boss Gary Gold has bemoaned his side's poor start to the game.

“Again we made a bad start and were on the back foot early doors," Gold said.

"However, we made seven entries into their 22 in the first half but came away with nothing as we are not scoring enough tries, especially when we scored 56 last year.

“We only had one entry in the second half as they showed they are not European Champions for nothing as they play with real intensity.

“They put us under huge pressure when they defend but we didn’t roll over as we’ve got the basis of a team who has fight and spirit.

“We showed plenty of courage and never gave up, but we made critical errors at critical times and I’m not sure whether it’s a confidence thing or not.”
