‘Lions the last thing I want to do’ – Eddie Jones

England head coach Eddie Jones has labelled the British & Irish Lions position as “an ambassador job” that he has no interest in taking on.

Jones, whose contract at Twickenham expires in 2021, was speaking to the Courier Mail and ruled himself out of the running for the position.

It has been reported that current Wales boss Warren Gatland is favourite for the role, with Jones revealing the South Africa trip isn’t for him.

“The last thing I want to do is spend eight weeks in a blazer,” he said.

“That’s an ambassador job. I’m a coach. I’d rather coach the Queensland Sheffield Shield team.”

Jones added that the Wallabies job is something he would be interested in, with Michael Cheika stepping down after the 2019 Rugby World Cup in Japan.

“I don’t think I would ever say never, but it’s not something I have really thought about,” he said before discussing Australia‘s chances at the tournament.

“One thing they are not short of is talent. Cheik is in a good position. This could be his last hurrah and he’s got nothing to lose.”
