Lions returnee Daly rested by Wasps

Elliot Daly is being rested for the early stages of the Premiership season as Wasps don't want the England international wing to burn out.

Daly played in seven of the Lions' 10 tour matches in New Zealand with the 24-year-old making a total of 36 appearances last season for Wasps, England and the Lions combined.

Wasps director of rugby Dai Young admitted that Daly will sit out the first two games of the season.

"The recommendation has always been five weeks off and four weeks of pre-season," Young told SkySports.

"That leaves Elliot unavailable for the first two games of the season, and from my point of view that's something we'll adhere to.

"We've done it with all our internationals. Everyone has to have five weeks off, whether they play club, international or whatever."

England and Lions flanker James Haskell should return in October as he continues to recover from finger surgery.
