The Lions are still in the hunt for a Currie Cup semi-final spot after hammering Boland 88-15 at Ellis Park on Saturday, scoring 13 tries.

Boland scored first through Junior Bester, who followed up well on a spilled high ball, but by the end of the first half-hour the Lions had their bonus point through tries from tries by Alwyn Hollenbach, Willem Alberts, Gert Muller and Dusty Noble.

That lead had been stretched to 41-8 by the break, with two more tries from Derek Minnie and Doppies la Grange, while Boland could only muster a penalty from Danré Gerber to add to Bester's score.

The one-way traffic continued unabated in the second half, with Alberts, scrum-half Chris Jonck, captain Cobus Grobbelaar, Nico Luus, Franco van der Merwe and Walter Venter (2) all scoring, while Boland scored an intercept try through wing Deon Scholtz. BUt the gulf in class was embarrassing for a top level fixture and it's high time SA Rugby did something about this.
