Racing 92 have sacked star player Leone Nakarawa after the lock returned late to the Top 14 outfit following the end of the Rugby World Cup.

The Fijian international was due to arrive back in the French capital in late October but did not turn up until two weeks later.

Nakarawa was duly suspended by Racing and they have now confirmed via a statement that the lock has been sacked.

They have accused the 2018 European Player of the Year of “a total lack of team spirit and a marked insubordination” and of “abandoning his post” after not responding to messages from the team management.

“Nakarawa refused to answer the messages that the club sent him after noting his unjustified absence and simply set his own date of return,” Racing added.

“The only star is the team and the individualistic attitude of Nakarawa is inconceivable.”

English Premiership side Sale Sharks have already publicly declared an interest in signing Nakarawa, while former club Glasgow Warriors are also reportedly keen to bring him back to Scotstoun.
