Kingston – ‘Evans a legend’

Harlequins director of rugby John Kingston praised Nick Evans after the fly-half masterminded a 32-13 win over Wasps on Friday.

Evans, who is retiring at the end of the season, kicked 22 points in his final game at the Stoop to keep his side in contention for European Champions Cup rugby next season.

The 36-year-old, who is Quins' record points scorer in the Premiership, rightly won the man-of-the-match award and received a standing ovation when he was substituted a minute before the final whistle.

And Kingston believes that the former All Blacks fly-half is one of the club's all-time greats.

“I said when Nick announced that he was retiring that he was a legend,” Kingston told The Telegraph.

“I think that word is over-used but he is a legend at Harlequins rugby football club. There are very few of those, but he is one.

“He has great selflessness. So often you see world-class players – which is what he is – who perhaps don’t always do the small things right. But he does it week in, week out. It’s a pleasure to work with him.”
