The Stormers have announced the signing of Springbok hooker Joseph Dweba, who will join the Cape Town-based side on a three-year contract.

Dweba, 26, will make the move from Bordeaux-Begles in France at the end of the season, with his contract with the Stormers starting from July.

He made his South Africa bow against Argentina last year having also featured for South Africa ‘A’ in their win against the British and Irish Lions.

Very exciting move

The front-row revealed that he is looking forward to joining his new United Rugby Championship teammates and settling his family in Cape Town.

“This is a very exciting time for me and my family, it is great to be home and playing my rugby for the DHL Stormers,” the all-action hooker said.

“The team has played some top rugby this season and I can’t wait to get stuck in as we take on the Vodacom United Rugby Championship and Heineken Champions Cup next season.”

Stormers head coach John Dobson added that having a player of Dweba’s proven quality join the team is a massive boost for his squad next season.

“Joseph is an all-action performer who will fit in really well and suit the style of rugby that we have been playing,” he said.

“We want to see him grow his game further and help us take things to the next level going forward in what is an exciting future here for our team.”
