Japan head coach Eddie Jones is recovering from a stroke in hospital, a Japan Rugby Football Union (JRFU) spokeswoman said on Thursday.
With Jones out of action, assistant Scott Wisemantel will take charge of the national side for the visit of the All Blacks to Tokyo next month.
The ex-Wallaby coach was admitted to hospital on October 15, and subsequently diagnosed with a stroke, having suffered severe headaches.
“He is out of intensive care and is now recuperating in the general ward. He will remain hospitalised indefinitely to rest,” said the JRFU spokeswoman.
“The coach initially complained of mild movement impairment to his left side but is now doing fine. He has been conversing normally from the beginning.”
