Johnny Sexton: Ireland targeting their ‘best performance of the season’ against New Zealand

Ireland captain Johnny Sexton says his team are looking to end their tour of New Zealand with their “best performance of the season”.

Sexton’s men have already made history by beating the All Blacks for the first time on New Zealand soil in last weekend’s Test match.

Finish on a high

All hands are on deck for Ireland as the side looks to close out the series and create further history. Sexton says all the players are focused on producing their best performance.

“The group are in good spirits, gearing up for a massive game,” said the fly-half. “We’re really looking forward to it.

“It’s a great place to be; creating a little bit of history last week but now we’ve got a chance to do something a little bit bigger and a little bit more special.

“All the boys are just concentrating on getting our best performance of the season out there and see where that leaves us.”

Milestone pending

Ireland will move to the top of the world rankings with a win this weekend, and Sexton hopes to achieve that as well as scoring six more points to take his Test tally over 1000 points.

“It’s something we speak about all the time, the people back home watching, whether it’s family, friends,” he said.

“But also the whole country will be up tomorrow morning watching and it doesn’t go unnoticed. Hopefully we can do them proud.”
