Lyon have announced that Wallabies second-row Izack Rodda is one of six new players who is joining them ahead of the 2020/2021 season.

The 23-year-old hit the headlines last month when he was released from his contract with Super Rugby franchise along with fellow lock Harry Hockings and fly-half Isaac Lucas. This, after the trio refused to take a reduction in pay.

Lyon president Yann Roubert revealed that Rodda and Toulouse number eight Gillian Galan have joined the club after signing one-year deals.

Rodda and Galan will be joined at Lyon by veteran France centre Mathieu Bastareaud (Rugby United New York), who returns to the Top 14 outfit as a back-rower, Australian openside flanker Colby Fainga’a (Connacht), American hooker, Joe Taufete’e (Worcester Warriors) and fly-half Leo Berdeu, who is back at Lyon after a loan spell at French rivals Agen.

News of Bastareaud, Fainga’a, Joe Taufete’e and Berdeu joining Lyon was already made earlier this year.

Lyon were in second place in the Top 14 standings when the Ligue National de Rugby announced that the 2019/20 campaign has been abandoned after 17 rounds of matches.
