Ireland’s Dan Leavy out of World Cup

Leinster have confirmed that flanker Dan Leavy has been ruled out of the World Cup following an injury sustained against Ulster in the Champions Cup.
Leavy was stretchered off with what has been revealed as a ‘complex knee ligament injury’, which will sideline him for a lengthy period.
A statement on Twitter said: “Leinster Rugby can confirm that Dan Leavy had an initial scan yesterday on a complex knee ligament injury but needs further assessment this week.
“He has been ruled out for the remainder of the season and into next season to include the Rugby World Cup.”

Broadcasters refused to show replays of the incident due to the graphic nature of it while head coach Leo Cullen immediately stated post-match that the back-row was going to be out for a long time.
“Dan has had a bad injury,” Cullen said. “I don’t want to get into too much detail. He will be out for a while. We will get it assessed and take it from there. It’s a tough one for Dan.”
Leavy joins Josh van der Flier on the sidelines, who is likely to miss the rest of the season following a groin problem picked up in the Six Nations victory over France.
