Ian Foster receives Beauden Barrett backing

New Zealand full-back Beauden Barrett has thrown his weight behind the appointment of Ian Foster as Steve Hansen’s successor as head coach.

The All Blacks will look to name their next head coach in the coming weeks after Hansen ended his tenure following their World Cup campaign.

Barrett, who has been a mainstay in the side in recent years, believes “continuity” is key for the squad and therefore backs Foster to take over.

“He’s a very intelligent coach. A great team man and hopefully we can have some continuity going forward,” he told the New Zealand Herald.

Pushing Foster for the position is Crusaders head coach Scott Robertson, who has dominated Super Rugby over the past three campaigns.

Hansen’s shoes are big ones to fill after an impressive 16 years involved with the coaching set-up and Barrett praised the outgoing coach.

“Steve’s legacy is a very strong one. His win percentage speaks for itself,” Barrett said, lauding his personal skills. “I think the biggest thing with Steve is the way he makes his players feel.

“We know he 100% has our back. As a player that’s all you can really ask for. He’s taught me a lot along the way and I’m very lucky for that.”
