‘I am massively proud of the boys’ – Guy Thompson

Leicester number eight Guy Thompson admitted he was “massively proud” of his team after they beat Newcastle on Friday.

The 27-22 victory at Kingston Park moves the Tigers eight points clear of the Falcons, who occupy bottom spot on the Premiership standings.

Thompson was one of the stars of their win as he crossed for two tries and set up the other and after the vital triumph he gave his view.

“I’m massively proud of the boys and our defensive effort. Credit to George leading the boys around the park as well. We’ve missed this feeling,” the man-of-the-match told BT Sport, with Newcastle now needing Sale Sharks to do them a huge favour against Worcester on Saturday.

“It’s nice to see the boys fighting for everything. Hopefully we have turned a corner, but we’ve got a massive game in two weeks so we are going to make sure we keep working hard.”

Meanwhile, a disappointed Newcastle Falcons director of rugby Dean Richards said: “I thought George Ford controlled the territory very well. We just didn’t take our chances when they were there and that probably cost us on the night.

“You can’t fault the endeavour but a little bit more accuracy is what was needed. That little bit of accuracy would have won us the game.”
