Hodgson calls for ARU cleanout

Force legend Matt Hodgson believes that all ARU board members should resign after they decided to cut the Perth-based franchise from Super Rugby.

Rugby in Western Australia has been dealt a massive blow with the news and the Force are set to take the matter to the Supreme Court.

Western Force stakeholder and billionaire Andrew Forrest is expected to lead the process of applying for an injunction.

Former Force players Hodgson and Nathan Sharpe have lambasted the ARU and believe there needs to be a cleanout of Australian Rugby's thinktank.

"I think it should have been cleared probably when this drama started. They put rugby in a pretty bad position," Hodgson told the AAP.

"It would be good to see a cleanout.

"They talk about a national blueprint. But if you cut out half of Australia, how could it be a national competition?"

Another Western Force and Wallaby great Sharpe also hopes to see an ARU clearout and says the decision to remove the Force is disgraceful.

Sharpe says the Force would be one of the key sides he would keep if he was tasked with the job of rebuilding Australian rugby.

Forrest has promised to do everything he can to save the Force, going as far as promising to bankroll any potential future losses by the Force if they were allowed to stay in the competition. He also said the ARU's decision was a gross injustice.

"The three people who are the architect of this decision inside the ARU have resigned. I don't blame them for that," Forrest said.

If the Force's appeal application is denied, they will have run out of legal options. Forrest added that this will not stop him.

"There's no good plan A without a good plan B. I've just got to work that out," he concluded.
