Henson eager for Welsh reaction
Wales centre Gavin Henson says his side must up their performances if they are to challenge their Tri-Nations visitors come November.
Wales centre Gavin Henson says his side must up their performances if they are to challenge their Tri-Nations visitors come November.
The Ospreys star was a spectator during the summer Tests in South Africa due to injury.
But he's adamant that the Grand Slam winners' efforts in defeat fell far short of their recent mark, which disappointed him slightly.
“We weren't good enough in June. We don't want to go another three years without winning anything again. We're a better team than that,” said Henson, speaking to BBC Sport.
Warren Gatland's side are set to face stern opposition in the shape of Australia, Canada, New Zealand and the Springboks at the Millennium Stadium in November.
And Henson, who should return to rugby action in October following surgery, is itching to get back on the international stage later in the season.
“It was annoying not to be out there,” he continued.
“The first Test was disappointing and the second game was a bit better. We need to put that right in November.
“I thought the first Test in South Africa was disappointing because we finished off last season on a massive high with the Grand Slam.
“I was hoping the boys would kick on and keep the winning mentality or good performances and give us something to build on.
“We just need to get our performances back up there and get back on track straight away.
“I should be back by October and hope to have four or five games in that period if I can.
“Being picked for Wales depends on if I'm playing well enough. We'll have to wait and see.
“But there are a lot of centres at the Ospreys so one of my main aims will just be to nail a starting spot.”
