Henry Taylor extends Northampton Saints stay

Northampton Saints have announced that former England U20 scrum-half Henry Taylor has signed a contract extension with the Premiership club.

The 25-year-old arrived at Franklin’s Gardens from Saracens this summer and made his mark in Northampton colours quickly, scoring against his former side in both the Premiership Rugby Cup and the opening round of the Premiership.

Starting out at Harlequins academy, Taylor headed to Loughborough University before signing a contract with Saracens in 2014, spending four seasons with the London side. He moved to Saints for the 2019/20 campaign and after making 10 first team appearances already the scrum-half insists making the choice to stay in Northampton was an easy one.

“I’ve loved every minute of my time with Saints so far and when the chance came to renew my contract it was a no brainer for me,” Taylor said.

“I can’t say enough about Northampton; the town, the supporters and everyone at the club has made me feel so welcome and I’m relishing being a part of this club for the foreseeable future.

“Chris Boyd’s ambitions for this team are clear to see, we’re always striving to be better and the competition for the number nine shirt will only help me improve further.”

Taylor’s credentials earned him international honours back in 2014, with the scrum-half representing England U20s alongside Northampton team-mate Paul Hill.

And Northampton Saints director of rugby Boyd is delighted to see the young scrum-half sign on again.

He said: “Henry’s already proved to us that he’s got what it takes to challenge for the number nine shirt so we’re delighted to see him stay.

“We’ve got a great group of young scrum-halves coming through, they’re pushing each other to be better every day and I have every faith Henry will remain an important part of this squad over the next few seasons.”
